Begin in Tarangire National Park, known for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees and diverse wildlife, before travelling to Serengeti National Park, where open plains and varied habitats provide opportunities to encounter some of Africa’s most recognisable animals.
Spend the following day exploring Serengeti on game drives with your guide, allowing more time to search for wildlife and discover different areas of the park. On the final day, descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive across its wildlife-rich floor before returning to Arusha. Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart from Arusha and travel to Tarangire National Park for your first game drive. The park’s baobab-dotted landscapes and riverine habitats provide a striking setting for wildlife viewing. Look out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other animals that inhabit the park. Enjoy a picnic lunch during the safari before continuing your game drive. In the afternoon, leave the park and travel to your accommodation in Karatu where you will spend the night.
Day 2: Journey to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, depart for Serengeti, travelling through the scenic landscapes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As the scenery opens into the wide plains of Serengeti, begin discovering one of Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. Depending on your route and arrival time, enjoy game viewing along the way and look for wildlife across the grasslands. Your guide will help you explore the park and identify animals as you make your way to your accommodation.
Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive in Serengeti
Spend a full day exploring Serengeti on game drives with your guide. With more time in the park, you can explore different areas and look for wildlife across the open plains, around rocky kopjes and near water sources. Serengeti supports a rich variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and, with luck, cheetahs and leopards. Sightings depend on the season and animal movements, so your guide will adapt the day's route to local conditions and recent wildlife activity. Enjoy a picnic lunch during your game drive before continuing your exploration and returning to camp in the evening.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
After an early breakfast, travel towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive on its remarkable crater floor. The combination of grasslands, woodland and wetlands supports a variety of wildlife, including zebras, wildebeest, buffalo and hippos. With luck, you may also spot the endangered black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch during the day's excursion before ascending from the crater and beginning the journey back to Arusha, where your safari concludes.
