Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart Arusha and travel to Tarangire National Park for your first game drive. Known for its ancient baobab trees, open savannah and large elephant herds, Tarangire offers a wonderful introduction to Tanzania's wildlife. As you explore the park with your guide, look out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other animals that inhabit this diverse landscape. Enjoy a picnic lunch during your safari before continuing with afternoon game viewing. Later, leave the park and travel to the Karatu area, where you will settle into your lodge and enjoy dinner.
Day 2: Journey to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park, travelling through the scenic landscapes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, enjoy views of the highlands before the landscape opens into the vast plains of Serengeti. As you enter the park, the journey becomes part of the safari, with opportunities to spot wildlife along the route. Your guide will help you look for animals and introduce you to the remarkable ecosystem that makes Serengeti one of Africa's best-known wildlife destinations. Continue to your camp, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the wilderness, and enjoy dinner before settling in for the night.
Day 3: Full Day in Serengeti National Park
Today is dedicated to exploring Serengeti and its remarkable wildlife. Set out on game drives across the plains, looking for the cheetahs that roam these open grasslands, as well as lion prides resting or moving through their territories. You may also encounter elephants, giraffes, antelopes, wildebeest and many other animals along the way. You can choose to spend the full day exploring with a packed picnic lunch, allowing more time in the park, or enjoy a morning game drive followed by a break at camp during the warmer hours before heading out again in the afternoon. Your guide will help plan the day according to wildlife activity and your preferred pace. Return to camp in the evening for dinner and another night in the heart of Serengeti.
Day 4: Another Full Day in Serengeti
With another full day in Serengeti, there is more time to explore different areas of the park and discover its changing landscapes. Head out with your guide to search for wildlife, from large herds grazing across the plains to predators moving through the grasslands. The day's route will be planned around local wildlife activity, recent sightings and the conditions in the areas you visit. Between game drives, take in the expansive scenery that makes Serengeti so distinctive. As evening approaches, return to camp for dinner and a final night beneath the Serengeti sky, surrounded by the natural sounds of the African wilderness.
Day 5: Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
Begin the day early and depart Serengeti, enjoying game viewing along the way as you travel towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Upon reaching the crater, descend to the floor of this remarkable volcanic caldera for a game drive through its varied habitats, including grasslands, woodland and wetlands. Keep an eye out for lions, buffaloes, elephants and other wildlife. With luck, you may also spot a leopard or the endangered black rhino. Around lunchtime, enjoy a picnic at a designated picnic site, where you may see hippos in the nearby water. After your crater safari, ascend to the rim and continue the journey to Arusha, where your safari concludes.
